2014 Cherry Tart Chardonnay
by Cherry Pie
Following the success of Cherry Tart Pinot Noir created from three distinct, multi-regional vineyards, Winemaker Jayson Woodbridge sought a similar approach to develop an equally rich and balanced Chardonnay. Utilizing the unique taste and flavor profiles of three vineyards, Cherry Tart Chardonnay is the latest offering by Cherry Pie.
A Blend of Three Vineyards
Stanly Ranch Vineyard: While Stanly Ranch gained its notoriety from Pinot Noir, the Chardonnay from the ranch is classic Napa Carneros: big, rich and powerful.
Oak Meadows Vineyard: Located in the Russian River Valley, the heart of Sonoma County, Oak Meadows is comprised of loose, gravely, well-drained soil that allows the ground to be cool, but not wet. Evening fog contributes to full, ripe Chardonnay flavors with great acidity and balance.
Garcia Vineyard: Located in Monterey County, near the Santa Lucia AVA, Garcia Vineyard overlooks the Salinas River Valley. Proximity to the Pacific Ocean contributes to a cool growing site with moderate temperatures, allowing the grapes to develop full flavor and maintain delicate floral aromatics.
Fermented in small stainless tanks, gentle handling in small lots preserves the fine aromatics and stirring of the lees adds a rich, toasty character to the nose of Cherry Tart Chardonnay. The wine is barreled down in new and once used French Oak barriques. All of the new barrels are used on the Stanly Ranch portion of the blend; the big power and tropical fruit character of Napa fruit marries perfectly with the new French Oak barrels.
Abundant floral and aromas of lychee nut, honeysuckle, and peach marmalade jump from the glass. Incredibly rich and textured, with loads of caramelized pear, pineapple and exotic marmalade notes, our Chardonnay has brilliant delineation and stunning length with undeniable minerality.
